Late effects of radiation therapy in pediatric patients and survivorship

Advances in multimodality therapy have led to childhood cancer cure rates over 80%. However, surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy may lead debilitating or even fatal long-term effects among survivors beyond those inflicted by the primary disease process. It is critical understand, mitigate, prevent these late of improve quality life survivors. This review summarizes various acknowledges Pediatric Normal Tissue Effects Clinic (PENTEC), an international collaboration that systematically analyzing association between radiation treatment dose/volume consequential organ toxicities, developing children as a basis formulate recommendations for clinical practice pediatric oncology.
